DSA has released an eight-page overview of the health care crisis facing the United States. Prepared by Dr. Ken Frisof, Executive Director of the Universal Health Care Action Network (UHCAN), the report, titled Health Care for All: Turning A dream into Reality, documents the crisis of the uninsured and the need for affordable health care. The report includes a description of the different proposals that make up the "health care debate" in Congress. Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) supports a single payer approach to the national health insurance crisis.
The report appears as a special section in the Fall 2004 issue of Democratic Left, currently in production. A PDF of the issue is available at the DSA web site (www.dsausa.org). Copies of just the report may also be downloaded from the resources page of the DSA web site.
"We were very pleased to work with Dr. Frisof on this report," said Frank Llewellyn, DSA's National Director. "Health care is in an escalating crisis. In every negotiation, employers attempt to downsize their health coverage, and the Republicans continue to attempt to undermine the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Developing an effective national program that responds to the health care crisis by increasing the number of Americans covered by insurance programs and reducing costs by shrinking the bloated insurance industry bureaucracy has been a major focus of DSA activity and program. We will be printing copies of this report so that it can be made available to those without Internet access," he continued.
