Young Democratic
Socialists Launch New Website
Young Democratic Socialists (YDS), DSA's youth section, has
launched a new and much more user-friendly website. I strongly recommend that you
bookmark their site and check it out regularly for the latest reports on
socialist youth in action! The web address remains the same:
ydsusa.org.
One of the most important things on the website is information on
YDS' Summer Conference. It will be held in
upstate New York August 5-8, 2010. If you know a young person who is or
should be a socialist, please forward them information about YDS and this
conference. It offers young people a great introduction to our movement!.
Young Activists Need Our Help
Because the future of our
movement lies in recruiting a new generation, not only to our socialist vision
but also to the project of building an organized socialist presence in
our country youth activity--activism, education and training--is one of our most
important projects. The life long bonds between comrades that are often forged
at youth conferences are critically important to building our
organization. Our conferences empower young
activists and focus their energy on a program for change. They
are much more than "networking" events. The YDS summer conference lets young
people plan and set an agenda for action. One of the things that came out of
last year's summer conference was a five year plan that included the re-designed
web site that was launched today.
Cost, particularly in these
difficult economic times is a significant barrier to participation. To
offset that obstacle the DSA Fund has established a special scholarship fund and
is accepting tax-deductible contributions to increase youth
participation.
Your help is vital, especially
as the declining economy has made it more difficult for young people to pay even
the modest registration fees we charge. Your contributions provide direct help
to young people who have to fly to New York for the conference. We are helping
young people from all over the country get to the conference. Your
contributions also underwrite the cost of the conference, enabling us to keep
registrations fees as low as possible. At the summer conference we have to
include the cost of housing and meals in the fees, so that's doubly
important.
